Supplements
It’s fair to say the world
of supplements is now so large that it is difficult to know where to look and more importantly, will taking them actually be of any benefit? Hopefully, having personally researched
dozens of supplements over the last 20years, I’ve finally found a range of supplements
that I believe ticks all the boxes and more importantly I feel comfortable
recommending to others:

Background Information
James Greenwell is the MD
& founder of proto-col – James was a former international athlete &
Captain of the Great Britian Modern Pentathlon team.
His goal to
compete in the European championships, however, was injured after suffering a tear
to his right tendon. Having had the injury looked at by medical experts, James
was told he had suffered a career ending injury. At the time James was in his
early thirties and the diagnosed recovery period was 12 to 14 weeks he was also
told nothing further could be done to speed up this recovery period.
Dismayed at the
prospect of not competing again James who had a nutritional background &
with the help of Professor Greg Wright, (International pentathlete and infamous
for assisting David Walliams with his English Channel & River Thames 160mile swim as
well as climbing Kilamonjareo with Celebrities
Chris
Moyles, Fearne Cotton, Denise Van Outen,
Benn Shephard, Kimberly Walsh, Ronan Keating and Gary Barlow in aid of charities) James
became the first elite athlete in the world to try Collagon hydrolosate
as a supplement to aid the recovery of his injury.
Amazingly after only 3 weeks of taking a high dosage (9
capsules per day) of the Collagen supplements James felt strong enough to start
back training and was even able to start to jog again.
Collagen Facts
Collagen is a structural
protein in abundant in whole body every single elememt of body, hair, nails,
ligaments, tendons etc – about 76% of protein in body is collagen – this
natural production of collagen starts breaking it down at approx.. 1.5% of body
store per year after the age of 25, so by the age of 45 you have lost about 30%
of the primary protein which holds / glues our bodies together.
So by taking supplements
from inside has better affect than taking externally – as it stimulates the body
to start producing its own natural collagen at faster rate again & supply
the body with pure collagen that the body can absorb & rebuild its original
levels.
As body gets older its connective
tissues break down naturally, the ingestion of collagen will stimulate the
natural growth & natural building process, however, the body will only recognise
collagen with a very similar DNA to our body’s own collagen.
It is during the first 2 hours
of sleep, when the body goes into deep sleep known as Alpha sleep cycles, in
this state the body go into its recovery zone / scavenger mode,. Whereby, all
the vitamins, minerals proteins & carbohydrates ingested during the day are
utilized to repair the body.
So to maximize the recovery
benefit it is best to take the collagen supplements last thing at night.
Recommended Dosage
3 capsules daily for vanity,
up to 6 capsules daily for minor injuries and up to 9 capsules daily for serious
injuries.
Note: It is not possible
to overdose, because the collagen is a naturally occurring product in the body,
which is non-toxic, so you can take as much as you want, the body will assimilate
it and only use as much as it requires.
Vegetarians:
Collagen is a bovine
derivative and therefore may not be suitable for vegetarians, although it is
completely tasteless.
